Meet Mayank Pokharna, Co-Liv’s Head of Marketing
I am on the mission to help Property Managers, Coliving & HMO Operators, Landlords manage and market their own real estate rental portfolio.
I am working on something exciting and super useful that helps you in Lowering operational costs, Better productivity, Enhancing tenant experience.
I am a coliving operator turned tech service provider and a proptech enthusiast building JumboTiger. It is a full-stack real-time conversational property management software. It is being used by landlords, property managers, coliving, HMOs, student-living, and paying guest operators & rental portfolio managers.
How do you currently define yourself and what drives you?
I have always been a product builder and entrepreneur at heart. I started out during my graduation by building a coaching institute, followed up with a robotic irrigation product prototype to help farmers produce more, ran a student investment management fund during my post graduation, and then bootstrapped one of the first coliving and shared living companies (SimplyGuest) in India. Currently, I am working on jumbotiger.com, a full-stack real-time conversational property management software for coliving and HMO operators. It will be the world’s most advanced coliving software launched by an operator.
The only thing that drives me is the passion to leave this world a better place. I found my calling in becoming a part of a movement that can define the future of living and according to me that’s coliving. I like to work and learn with people from various domains and geographies. I believe there is a lot to learn from all cultures and every day we learn something new.
I am an amature writer and have close to a million views on Quora. I am also authoring a fictional novel. I think we are all a part of an elaborate plot and we are just playing our part here.
Lastly, Coliving brings affordability and community together. This makes it a very contemporary solution in all parts of the world and I want to propagate this movement in any way I can.
What makes you passionate about coliving” about coliving, and why are you actively promoting the coliving scene?
I have lived in 4 different coliving spaces in the last 5 years and ran a coliving company since 2015. The kind of conversation I had during my stays, pushed me to explore this world more. I still remember my first conversation with a total stranger during my first coliving stay. It was about startups, he was working in one and every evening we would brainstorm on a different problem statement. I was fresh out of college and this was a huge value add. Life, philosophy, startups, I could just talk about anything under the sun and I will find someone who will understand. I believe that as our families get nuclear and our work takes us to unknown lands, coliving/ shared living will bring us respite in both affordability and loneliness. The shared or circular economy has been ever growing since last decade and will continue to grow.
I believe coliving is at its inflection point of growth.
It needs a lot of tools and resources to preserve its soul along with the growth. I want to be part of this and hence I recently launched a tech platform to enable coliving spaces to preserve its operations and community advantage as they scale.
What’s your personal vision and thoughts on the future of coliving for the year to come?
This year will be an inflection point in Coliving’s growth journey. 2020 has shown everyone the importance of human interactions that will further propagate this trend. Coliving will become a goto way of living for the next generation as it makes places affordable, facilitates people to have meaningful conversations and gives people a community to live by.
With this growth a lot of responsibilities come to preserve the very reason coliving is gaining so much importance. That’s community and seamless operations and in my opinion the only way to do that is via technology. We need a seamless tech platform that takes care of all the newer use-cases that coliving has to offer.
You recently joined Co-Liv as Head of Marketing , which opportunities do you want to create for the organization, its members, and the coliving industry?
I want to enable all internal stakeholders at Co-Liv and help their projects like the upcoming Co-Liv Summit, Co-Liv Accreditation, Tech Community, colivingresources.com, Co-Liv Onboarding Program, and everything else that will be launched. These projects deserve to reach the right audience and make the coliving movement stronger. I also want to create a captive audience that keeps interacting and brainstorming on everything coliving and becoming a torch bearer to the world as it embraces coliving in a big way.
How did you get into coliving?
In 2015, I had to join my first job in a totally new city. During my travel, a fellow passenger introduced me to the idea of shared houses. Coliving was not a famous word back then. I liked the idea of like minded people staying and sharing a space together. I was alone, I wanted to make new friends and this is where I got into a shared/ coliving space. Since then in the last 5 years I have lived in 4 different coliving spaces. The recent one being interest based where I was staying with all entrepreneurs for a good part of 2020. I love every bit of my coliving experience. The friends (more so family) I have earned from these places are invaluable. For me coliving has been about making lifelong friends and a lifetime of experience.
